I'm a 21 year old college senior at a small-town southern university. I'm studying physics and math, and next year I'm going to go to graduate school in either astronomy or astrophysics (it depends on where I'm accepted). Getting my PhD will probably take about six years, and after graduation I have one goal: to join the Air Force. I've had a secret love affair with the Air Force since I was about eleven, having grown up in a base town. I want to be a scientist and an officer and do my country proud.
The only problem?
I'm fat.
The typical AF-ROTC program is four years, and graduate students are usually eligible to join, as long as they have four years remaining before they graduate. So I've got two and half years to slim down and get fit. My goal weight is 150 pounds, which is smaller than I've been since middle school. I also need to build my physical endurance, with cross training, and my strength, with weight training. I'll write about my life for the next 30 months, my training programs, my courses, my difficulties. I'd love support, suggestions, and feedback, but if you feel like flaming, go ahead. I know I've got a lot of work ahead of me, and every struggle makes me stronger.
